Resumo

Este estudo examina as habilidades espaciais e estratégias de navegação existentes que influenciam a efetividade do wayfinding. O estudo envolveu 59 voluntários que responderam a um questionário para levantar dados relativos à idade, gênero e estratégias de navegação. Foram aplicadas também duas outras técnicas: um teste de mapa mental e uma tarefa de localização no mapa, para avaliar as habilidades espaciais. Os resultados encontrados estão de acordo com o modelo de Kirasic (2000), onde o autor diz que o wayfinding sofre influência da capacidade de apreender o ambiente, e esta, por sua vez, depende das habilidades espaciais de cada um.

Abstract

This paper is about the variety of spatial abilities and wayfinding strategies. Wayfinding competency depends on these abilities and strategies; therefore they influence the information processing. The study involved 59 young adults. A test of mental map and a task of localization in the map had been applied to evaluate the spatial abilities. It was used a questionnaire to collect data about age, gender and wayfinding strategies.
