Elucidation of Principles of New Functionalism

Resumo

O objetivo deste artigo é o de elucidar os princípios básicos do Novo Funcionalismo, com o propósito de estabelecer alicerces mais firmes para desenvolvimento de novos métodos de Design. Este trabalho apresenta uma síntese do pensamento de dois grandes pensadores da Escola de Praga, Jan Mukarovský e Karel Honzík, bem como suas principais implicações para a qualidade Estética do Design. As conclusões da aplicação desta nova linha de pensamento no campo do Design, envolvem a transcendência da idéia ingênua de função, através da perspectiva das múltiplas dimensões das funções humanas.

Abstract

The objective of this article is to elucidate the basic principles of the New Functionalism, with the intention to establish firmer foundations for development of new methods of Design. This work presents a synthesis of the thought of two great thinkers of the School of Plague, Jan Mukarovský and Karel Honzík, and its main implications for the Aesthetic quality of the Design. The conclusions of the application of this new line of thought in the field of the Design, involve the transcendence of the ingenuous idea of function, through the perspective of the multi dimensional's functions of the human beings.
