Resumo

Quais são as interfaces, as trocas possíveis entre dois campos aparentemente tão distantes entre si quanto o Design e a Psicanálise? A experiência vem mostrando que esse diálogo, essa contribuição não se restringe àquilo que, á primeira vista, poderia se esperar: uma “aplicação” de um suposto saber da psicanálise, sobre o sujeito, aos problemas e necessidades oriundos da atividade do designer. Contrariando essa expectativa, o artigo defende a idéia de que a principal contribuição da psicanálise ao Design não é da ordem de um saber positivo e aplicável, e sim da ordem de um questionamento epistemológico, de uma explicitação dos pressupostos, discursos e tensões organizadores do campo e de prática do Design.

Abstract

This article explores the unlikely encounter between two very distant fields: design and psychoanalysis. What might one expect from such a meeting, in terms of exchange and the establishment of productive interfaces? Experience has shown that this rapport is not to be found where one would expect; it is not confined to the “application” of psychoanalytic theory and practical knowledge of subjective matters to the needs and problems posited by the designer´s practical activity. Against such an expectation, this paper argues that psychoanalysis main contribution to the field of Design does not lie in an a readily applicable and positive body of knowledge, pertaining rather to the order of epistemological inquiry and critique, involving the uncovering of presuppositions, discourses and tensions that organize the field of Design studies and design practice.
