Resumo
O sistema produtivo atual pode produzir com mais eficiência tendo em vista o enorme desperdício nele instalado. Para revelar o tamanho dessa ineficiência esse artigo reúne informações que apresentam um retrato de seu tamanho em diversos setores das economias. Essa situação, dentro do modelo da Eco-eficiência, coloca-se como uma área de atuação prioritária para as atividades projetuais.

Abstract
This paper brings information on the waste of all kinds of resources that our present system of production and consumption promotes, a situation that urgently needs understanding and corrective action if we do really intend to raise the life quality of the majority of the world population. The books Natural Capitalism and State of the World Atlas provided most of the data presented.
