Resumo

Este artigo trata de wn projeto chamado "Núcleo de Design e Seleção de Materiais" (NDSM) da Escola de Engenharia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, idealizado a partir do gap cx.istente na relação entre os profissionais de designe engenharia, as Indústrias c a Universidade. Este prejudica o desenvolvimento dos projetos, wna vez que design é fator dlferencial e competitivo. O projeto pretende unir as experiências destas ãreas através da pesquisa e de um "programa de ações" envolvendo informação sobre seleção de materiais. A pesquisa compila infonnaçõcs oferecendo uma ferramenta prática na escolha do melhor material a ser utiliudo. Além disso tem trabalhado em conjunto com a FIERGS (Federação das Indústrias do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul) tornando-se um pólo de informações e ajudando a promover a sinergia entre as áreas de engenharia e design. Para tomar as informações úteis e acessíveis, estas, são disponibilizadas na Internet. Acredita-se que o projeto tem tido sucesso nos seus objetivos.

Abstract

This paper deals with the description o f a project termed "Design and Material Selection Nucleus "(NDSM) going on in the Engineering Schoolfrom the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The project camefrom the gap found out among Design Professionals, lndustries and University relationships. This gap damages the development of the projects themselves, since Desig11 is a competi tive and differentiable factor. This work intends to join the are as experiences though a research anda program involving material selection information. The research compels materiais information guiding designers projects, offering a practical tool in the choice o f the best material to be used. Working together FLERGS the NDSM group catalogue industries, professionals and vendors, becoming pole o f information helping the synergy among the areas. To make work useful and accessible infom1ation obtained is disposed in web site. Until now the research and the program have been successful in it's objectives.
