Resumo

A primeira parte da Pesquisa investiga três abordagens no desenvolvimento de novos calçados calçados esportivos: Funcionalidade, Estética e Simbolismo. Da história do "tênis" e da observação de produtos recentes, constatamos a necessidade de maior flexibilidade no desenvolvimento de calçados em geral: Designers devem estar atentos aos novos conhecimentos sobre biomecânica e também sobre novas posturas sociais e grupais, cujos representantes elegeram o calçado esportivo como um dos maiores símbolo de status da última década. A segunda parte relata o desenvolvimento de calçado para trabalhadores da construção civil, enfatizando os aspectos de segurança, conforto, estética e semântica do produto. Essa abordagem usual para o desenvolvimento do calçado esportivo é direcionada para valorizar a identidade do trabalhador/usuário. Abstract

The first part of this research investigates three approaches for innovation in sports shoe design: the functional design - to attain the performance, comfort and protection requirements; the externai design - to attain trends of fashion which influence the f orm of this "functional" piece of equipment; the designed symbol - messages are embodied in sports shoe which transcend the representation of its mere purpose. ln addition some routes for new product development are also suggested. The secondpart is a design proposalfor performance work shoes. The work aims to be a contribu:tion to the creation of an appropriate identity for safety footwear based on sports shoe design. The concept of this new design should represent the idea of work as a performance activity, and this concept refers to the physical requirements and its glamourisation by means of design.
