The research has base in the bibliographic and documentary methods to list, analyze and group references that covered the coffee market and relevant aspects for sustainability in this environment. BC production followed a specific methodology, using sweetened tea, starter tea, and SCOBY. The produced BC was tested for perception by design students through online surveys based on the Ma2E4 tool. Results indicated that BC offers low-cost production and low environmental impact, suggesting its potential for diverse product applications. A metodologia utilizada é aplicada e qualitativa, com foco em entender a percepção das pessoas sobre a CB e suas potenciais aplicações comerciais. A pesquisa bibliográfica incluiu a análise de biomateriais, métodos de percepção de materiais no design, e a produção de celulose bacteriana. A produção de CB foi realizada seguindo uma metodologia específica, utilizando chás adoçados, inóculo (comumente denominado chá de arranque) e SCOBY. A CB produzida foi testada quanto à percepção por estudantes de design, através de formulários online baseados na ferramenta Ma2E4. Os resultados mostraram que a celulose bacteriana tem condições de produção de baixo custo e baixo impacto ambiental, sugerindo seu potencial para diversas aplicações em produtos. These changes results in adaptations on this area's education, with impacts not as immediate as the students and market require. This study sought to identify the challenges and potentialities in the packaging design teaching to contextualize a current vision of the theme's debate. The study was conducted through a systematic bibliographic review, analyzing publications in national and international databases, gathering common challenges and potentialities described by the authors. The research resulted in common points, including limitations on traditional curricular structures and the need for alignment with industrial demands. In respond to theses impediments, potentialities were proposed that, in each context, intends to solve the specific problems. Tais mudanças ocasionam adaptações no ensino desta área, com impactos não tão imediatos quanto alunos e mercado demandam. Com este estudo buscou-se a identificação de desafios e potencialidades no ensino de design de embalagens para contextualizar uma visão do atual debate acerca do tema. O estudo foi realizado através de uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática, analisando publicações em base de dados nacionais e internacionais, apurando desafios e potencialidades comuns relatados pelos autores. A pesquisa resultou em pontos comuns, incluindo limitações nas matrizes curriculares tradicionais e a necessidade de alinhamento com demandas industriais. Em resposta a estes impedimentos foram propostas potencialidades que, em cada contexto, visam solucionar os problemas específicos.
