Laboratories refer to controlled environments that are not very permissive or disorderly, but in the emerging organizational context, they are environments proposed for the development of innovations. Seeking to bring these fields closer together - strategic design and the organization, especially in the context of the innovation lab - this article seeks to discuss whether innovation projects developed in an innovation lab come close to the strategic design approach. To do this, information on the working method presented by the Ifood Lab was analyzed. The analysis also makes it possible to define the lab as a discoverer rather than a creator, which seems to inhibit the development of the significant innovations sought by strategic design. Os laboratórios remetem a ambientes controlados e pouco permissivos ou desordenados, mas no contexto organizacional emergente, são ambientes propostos para o desenvolvimento de inovações. Buscando aproximar estes campos - do design estratégico e da organização, especialmente no contexto do laboratório de inovação - este artigo busca discutir se os projetos de inovação, desenvolvidos em laboratório de inovação, se aproximam da abordagem do design estratégico. Para atender ao que se propõe, foram analisadas informações sobre o método de trabalho apresentado pelo Ifood Lab. A análise permite ainda definir o laboratório como descobridor e não criador, parecendo inibir o desenvolvimento das inovações significado almejadas pelo design estratégico.
