The elements present in these urban hubs are, to some degree, determinants of the population's quality of life. Given the high flow of people, the invariable and indispensable element of these spaces are public restrooms, as they are for emergency and non-optional use. However, it seems to be a challenge to adapt and provide inclusive, hygienic, and pleasant sanitary facilities. This study discussed the current state of public restrooms from the perspective of Urban and Universal Design, applying three evaluation tools related to accessibility, safety and comfort, in a market in the city of Recife-PE. Five different sanitary facilities located in high-flow public environments were analyzed. Os elementos presentes nesses núcleos urbanos são, em algum grau, determinantes na qualidade de vida da população. Tendo em vista o alto fluxo de pessoas, o elemento invariante e indispensável desses espaços são os banheiros públicos, já que são locais de uso emergencial e não facultativo. Todavia, parece ser um desafio adequar e fornecer instalações sanitárias inclusivas, higiênicas e agradáveis. Este estudo discutiu o estado atual dos banheiros públicos sob a ótica do Design Urbano e Universal, aplicando três ferramentas avaliativas relacionadas à acessibilidade, segurança e conforto. Foram analisadas cinco instalações sanitárias distintas, localizadas em ambientes públicos de alto fluxo, em mercado da cidade de Recife-PE.
