To achieve the goals, was chose to compare the processes of the character designer Nate Wragg and the production processes of illustrators Boris Vallejo, James Gurney and Norman Rockwell. It seeks to answer the question of what is the possible use of photography in the character design process for animation by recognizing the methodological processes of professionals and comparing these different processes. The theoretical basis of material language is given by the Italian filmmaker and semiotician Pier Paolo Pasolini. Busca-se responder à questão de qual seria o uso possível da fotografia no processo de design de personagem para animação por meio do reconhecimento dos processos metodológicos dos profissionais e da comparação entre esses diferentes processos. A fundamentação teórica sobre a linguagem material vem basicamente do cineasta e semiólogo italiano Pier Paolo Pasolini.
