Abstract

Humanity has suffered from the challenges associated with plastic waste management. In hospital environments, an additional difficulty is added, due to the risk of this same plastic being infectious waste and the lack of a more detailed segmentation process by type of plastic. The distributed recycling process, using mechanical recycling, proposes a local solution, but one that has systemic repercussions. Using the principles of humanity-centered design, we have a simple and interesting model to implement. This model was implemented, in reduced form, as a prototype, in only one sector of a general hospital, focusing especially on thermoplastics capable of reprocessing and has already shown significant impact.
