Resumo

Selecionar os materiais adequados para um determinado produto torna-se fundamental em projetos de design e, consequentemente, para o sucesso no mercado. Esta atividade tornou-se cada vez mais complexa devido à quantidade de materiais existentes e ao envolvimento de variáveis objetivas, como propriedades técnicas, bem como variáveis subjetivas, tais como as relacionadas as emoções, sentidos e interpretação. Uma das ferramentas capazes de criar condições favoráveis para apoiar essa complexa tarefa é uma biblioteca de materiais. Neste trabalho mostra-se o processo de desenvolvimento da iMateria, uma biblioteca de materiais inovadores da Escola de Design UNISINOS.

Abstract

The selection of appropriate materials for a given product is fundamental for design projects and thus to market success. This activity has become increasingly complex due to the great amount of existing materials and the involvement of objective variables, such as technical properties, as well as subjective variables, such as those related to emotions, senses and interpretation. One of the tools that can create favorable conditions to support this complex task is a materials library. This work shows the developing process of iMateria, the innovative materials library of UNISINOS School of Design.
