Resumo
Este artigo apresenta um estudo analítico sobre a representação gráfica de dimensões temporais em mensagens instrucionais de produtos de consumo. Inicialmente, é considerada a importância da compreensão de mensagens instrucionais pictóricas para o sucesso na realização de tarefas. Em seguida, são definidas dimensões temporais e apresentados parâmetros para análise das representações gráficas destas. São consideradas dez variáveis distribuídas nos níveis conceitual e de apresentação gráfica possibilitando relacionar as dimensões temporais com as estratégias adotadas para representá-las. Finalmente, são feitas considerações e recomendações quanto à representação de dimensões temporais em mensagens instrucionais a partir da abordagem analítica apresentada e da literatura.

Abstract
This paper presents an analysis on the graphic representation of time dimensions in consumer products’ instructional messages. Firstly, the importance of the comprehension of pictorial instructions to successful task performance is considered. After that, time dimensions are defined and parameters for the analysis of their graphic representations are presented. Ten variables are distributed into two analytical levels: conceptual and of graphic presentation. The analysis helps relate the time dimensions to the representation strategies adopted. Finally, considerations and recommendations on the representation of time dimensions are made according to the analytical discussion and to guidelines from the literature.
